Introduction

Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MP Mian Altaf Ahmed has welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, calling it a much-needed respite for civilians living along the Line of Control (LoC). Ahmed’s upbeat assessment follows weeks of cross-border firing that had disrupted daily life in border districts.

Improved Security and Stability

According to ANI, the ceasefire has led to a “significant reduction” in artillery exchanges in Rajouri and Poonch districts, where families had been forced to relocate because of relentless shelling. Ahmed noted that local security forces are now able to focus on developmental work rather than emergency evacuations.

Relief Measures for Affected Families

Highlighting the human cost of the clashes, Mian Altaf urged both state and central governments to expedite relief packages. He specifically called for:

  • Immediate financial aid for displaced families.
  • Skill-development programs to help victims find alternative livelihoods.
  • Psychological counseling for children traumatized by the conflict.

Political Implications

Ahmed’s praise comes amid broader calls for a sustained dialogue between India and Pakistan. While some political analysts remain skeptical about the ceasefire’s longevity, the JKNC MP expressed optimism that continued citizen-level exchanges—such as trade fairs and cultural events—could cement a lasting peace.
